Blank Page Muse/I Brake for Stamps: Shaking It Up for Halloween!

I first want to share the awesome news! Blank Page Muse has purchased the stamp company called I Brake for Stamps, another company with amazing red rubber stamps! So beginning next month, I will be also using stamps from I Brake for Stamps in my projects. Today's card features a Blank Page Muse stamp called Patches Halloween Witch. I put this cute little witch on a shaker card to send to a friend of mine who just loves Halloween. It's a fun ink-smooshing background and shaker card that's fun to make.

You can save 15% on this stamp and all purchases at Blank Page Muse and I Brake for Stamps by using my special code BPMBetty.

Supplies:
  • Blank Page Muse - Patches Halloween Witch Stamp
  • Happy Halloween sentiment stamp of choice
  • A6 White cardstock card base
  • Black cardstock mat - 4-3/8"W x 6-1/8"H
  • Watercolor paper 6"W x 4"H
  • White cardstock to stamp your image and sentiment
  • Black cardstock to mat sentiment (size will depend on the size of your stamp)
  • Coloring medium of choice - I used Copic markers
  • Nested hexagon dies (Shaker opening is approximately 3-1/4"W x 2-3/4"H)
  • Light weight chipboard
  • Halloween patterned paper
  • Acetate sheet
  • 1/8" Double-sided adhesive tape
  • Shaker bits in Halloween shapes and colors
  • Distress Inks in Black Soot, Seedless Preserves, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Vintage Photo
  • Ink blending brush
  • Water spray bottle
  • Watercolor paper
  • Heat gun
  • 1/2" Double-sided adhesive foam tape
  • 1/2" Double-sided adhesive tape
  • Leaf dies - approximated 1" size. I used ones from Stamp Anniething.
  • Your favorite liquid glue
Instructions:
  • Stamp the Patches Halloween Witch Stamp, color, and fussy cut. I used Copic markers:
    • Green: YG09, YG05, YG11
    • Pink cheeks: R20, R30
    • Purple: V17, V15, V12
    • Orange: YR09, YR04, YR01
  • How to make the shaker:
    • Tape the two nested hexagon dies together and cut out 6 frames using chipboard for the shaker. Also cut one frame using black cardstock for the front. Glue the 6 frames together with liquid glue and let dry.

    • Using the larger of the nested hexagon die, cut out one piece using the Halloween patterned paper and one from white cardstock for the back of the shaker and a piece of acetate for the shaker.
    • Using the 1/8" double-sided adhesive tape, adhere the black cardstock onto the acetate. Using the 1/8" double-sided adhesive tape, adhere the acetate to the chipboard frames.
    • Adhere the white cardstock hexagon piece to the patterned paper. This will provide additional stability to the shaker.
    • Add the shaker bits to the shaker piece, then adhere the patterned paper with liquid glue. Don't shake it until the glue dries.
  • Ink Smooshing Background:
    • Apply distress inks on a craft mat then spritz the inks with water
    • Using watercolor paper, smoosh your paper over the inks gently, being careful not to mix the inks or it will get muddy.
    • Dry between layers with a heat gun. Repeat the above steps until you get the desired look.
    • After the paper is dry, adhere to the black cardstock mat.
  • Embedding the shaker:
    • Instead of having the shaker piece sit on top of the card, it will be "embedded" into the card. To do this, using the large hexagon die to cut out a hole in the card front. Save the piece that is cut out for the leaves to be cut later.
    • Insert the shaker piece and place piece of double-sided tape (not the foam tape, just regular tape)
    • Using the 1/2" double-sided foam tape, add two to three layers (depends on how thick your foam tape is) to the back of the card front. The foam tape needs to be level with the thickness of the shaker.
    • Adhere the card front to the A6 card base.

  • Leaf embellishments:
    • Using the hexagon piece that was cut out of the card front, use leaf dies to cut out 3 leaves.
    • Ink the edges of the leaves using Distress Ink in Vintage Photo
    • Adhere the leaves to the card front
  • Finishing the card:
    • Adhere Patches Halloween Witch stamp onto the card.
    • Stamp your sentiment of choice on white cardstock and mat it with black cardstock and adhere onto the card.

I have to say this was one of the most fun cards I've made. I hope you give this one a try!
